Durable or Degradable

Likarda maintains a library of over 50 different hydrogel formulations developed using CSS. We know that each biological therapy is different and requires unique properties to thrive. Likarda’s scientist optimize the hydrogel specifically for the cells or peptides for different therapeutic applications. Likarda offers options in two categories of hydrogels: durable or degradable.

Durable: For applications where you require maintaining the transplanted cells in the location as long as possible while they secrete regenerative factors, a long-lasting hydrogel is optimal. These hydrogels can protect cells from the immune system in the process. An example of its use would be delivering insulin-producing cells for the long-term treatment of diabetes.

Controlled release: The degradable version is used to deliver cells so that they are released in the local area to act or otherwise interact with the surrounding tissues. In this application, the hydrogel can be tailored to release the cells locally over days, weeks, or months, as required by the therapy. When used in an application like osteoarthritis, stem cells can be injected into the joint, and the natural regenerative capacity of the cells and the joint tissue can interact.
